Tampere Helsinki:

Tampere Helsinki There is color in Helsinki, one of Europe's most effective and progressive capitals, a pathmaker in modern architecture and a strong contributor to the decorative arts. Helsinki is a bright, modern port city of about 400,000 population, with every amenity that makes for a good, even luxurious, so-ijourn by foreign visitors. ; There is unexpected color in several of the lesser cities, such as historic Turku (Abo in Sweden); seaside Porvoo; lakeside Savonlinna, with Olafj Castle, a photographer's dream; and even in big, industrial tampere helsinki (Ti merfors), whose booster-name is "The Smokeless Manchester."

Motoring in Finland in fine cars, with chauffeur if desired, is entirely practical, though it seems less appropriate in this watery land than lake-and-river travel. The easiest and best such inland water trip, for the most part on a pleasant motor vessel with a good restaurant, is that called The Finnish Silver Line, a tourist tour from Helsinki to Hameenlinna, where Sibelius was born, and thence to Aulanko, a luxurious resort, with a truly wonderful government-run hotel, called also Aulanko, and a riverside park; then on, by river craft and coach, to tampere helsinki, three to four days being needed for the whole thing.

Good hotels of less than de luxe standards and prices are reasonably numerous in all the cities. Helsinki has more than 30 of them, in all categories. Hotel Torni (Tower) is a skyscraper hotel (advertising itself, in Swedish, as "Finlands Forsta Skyskrapa"), with a view-giving dining room on its 13th and 14th floors, but it is definitely less pretentious than the postwar leaders. The Klaus Kurki is a very good hotel on a thoroughfare called simply The Boulevard. In provincial towns look for these good hotels: tampere helsinki—the Tammer; Turku—the Hamburger Bors or the Mao-kunta; Savonlinna—the Seurahuone.
