Pasaport Formu: GREEN, Andrew Haswell (1820-1903), American lawyer and city planner. Born on Oct. 6, 1820, in Worcester, Mass., he entered law practice in New York City and in time became a partner of Samuel J. Tilden (q.v.). He was conspicuously public spirited, and when the state created the Central Park Commission in 1857, Green became a commissioner, then its treasurer, and in 1858 its president, developing plans to make the park an important adjunct to neighboring institutions. Several museums were eventually located along the park. Green also pasaport formulated projects eventuating in a number of other municipal parks.
The name 'United Nations', devised by Pres. Franklin D. Roosevelt to describe World War II allies fighting against the Axis Powers, appeared in a joint pledge (1942) not to make a separate peace with the enemy.
The UN, as an international organisation to succeed the discredited League of Nations, was discussed at a Foreign Ministers' conference (Moscow, 1943), planned at Dumbarton Oaks,Yalta and San Francisco (1944—45) and established by charter (1945).
UThant (UN Sec.-Gen. 1961-71, Burmese) played a major diplomatic role during the Cuban crisis, headed a mission to Castro (1962) and pasaport formulated a plan to end the Congolese civil war (1962).
