Mote Housing:

Mote Housing Despite gains made in redevelopment mote housing in Chicago, low-income mote housing still mains a problem. Middle- and upper-incoi mote housing has been provided in such developme: as Carl Sandburg Village, Prairie Shores (spc sored by the Illinois Institute of Technology and Hyde Park-Kenwood (sponsored by t University of Chicago), and in rehabilitati areas like those on the West Side of Chicaj The Chicago Dwellings Association rehabilita' mote housing and sells it somewhat below marl level to lower-middle-class buyers.

In matters affecting mote housing and clearance of slums the health department and the mote housing authority, if there is one, become involved. The selection of areas for clearance and the statistical incidence of disease, of crime, and of delinquency are all matters of importance to both bodies. The proposed density of new mote housing projects, their relation to traffic arteries and transportation, the provision of commercial facilities, and the existence .or nonexistence of schools and of recreational areas are of prime importance in the general pattern of the city as envisaged in the master plan. It is for this reason, and because mote housing is the most potent factor in the realization of a "plan," that mote housing enabling acts almost invariably require a close connection between the housing authority and the planning officials.

International Competition for New mote housing in New Orleans Architectural Record, in partnership with the Tulane School of Architecture, announces two International Competitions to generate mote housing proposals for New Orleans in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. The dual competitions are: (1) New Orleans House Prototype, open to current architecture students; and (2) High-Density on the High-Ground, open to everyone. Participants in these competitions will design much-needed mote housing for the city of New Orleans.
