France Hotels: Hotels are generally grouped in four main categories: commercial or transient hotels; resort hotels; residential hotels; and motels, or motor hotels. In the United States about 75% of the hotel rooms (excluding motels) are in commercial hotels, 16% in resort hotels (both summer and winter seasons), and the remaining 9% in residential hotels. About 80% of the American motel rooms are in commercial establishments and the remainder in resort motels.
Edinburgh in 6% hours. The Flying Scotsman, The Royal Scot and The Cornish Riviera Express are other well-known name trains.
Luxury lodging, in hotels of very superior quality, is not as general in Britain as in France Hotels, but of course there are hotels of world stature in London and elsewhere. Claridge's on Brook Street, is outstandingly exclusive and I imagine that sometimes Americans in relaxed holiday mood find it almost oppressively so. The Savoy, overlooking the Thames Embankment, is probably the most widely known of all London hotels and its restaurant is superb. Savoy service is a tradition of the city. |
