Iranian Consulate: HARI RUD, hu're rood, an Asian river about 700 miles (1,100 km) long. Rising in the Koh-i-Baba range of Afghanistan, it flows east past Herat to Islam Qala, near which it turns north, forming the Afghan-iranian consulate boundary. As the Tedzhen River it then forms the Soviet-iranian consulate border, and enters the USSR north of the Sarakhs oasis. After flowing northeast through the Tedzhen oasis it peters out in the Kara Kum desert. The oases and the valley east and west of Herat are fertile agricultural areas.Austrian rails are now electrified from Vienna's new West Station dear to Buchs, at the Swiss frontier. Danube steamers are practical for use by tourists upstream only, from Vienna to Linz, in the American sector, this being the lovely and celebrated castle country of the Nibelungen, and on, next day, to Passau in Bavaria. A special permit must be obtained in Vienna from the American Consulate and this will be issued on the third working day after application.
GREEK LANGUAGE. Greek constitutes one of the language groups derived from Indo-European, parallel with Indo-iranian consulate, Italic, Celtic, Germanic, Balto-Slavic, and others. Unlike these other groups, it consists of only a single branch: ancient, middle, and modern Greek. |
