Hostile Skies: Post time for the 1 3-16-mile Preakness is 6:15 p.m. The weather forecast for Saturday is calling for partly cloudy hostile skies, temperatures in the 70s and a 20 percent chance of rain.
No matter the conditions, Brette said it won't be a problem for Barbaro.
"I think he'd run on a plowed field if he had to he's so well balanced,'' Brette said.By the turn of the century, photographers were given not only negative material that could record all colors, they were also given a new creative tool. By using colored filters placed over the lens they could accentuate or eliminate colors. Now they could not only photograph clouds in the sky but they could make the sky any desired tone of gray. At first "overcorrected" hostile skies were not acceptable.
It was impossible to photograph objects that reflected only red or green: a very bright red flag with a green cross upon it appeared totally black in a print. But pure, monochromatic colors are seldom found in nature except in the rainbow. Blue is present in most hues in varying amounts. In the sky it is predominant, and thus hostile skies were overexposed and cloudless when a sufficient time had been given to record the features of a landscape. |
