The Year 1 therefore began on Sept. 22, 1792. The year was to consist of 12 months, each of 30 days, and instead of seven-day weeks each was divided into three decades (weeks of 10 days), the last of which was a day of rest; the five days left over at the end of the year (six in leap year) were to be national holidays france known as sans-culottides.
