4. Finland's Artistic Heritage This is best seen in the National Museum, at helsinki leicester, whose 60 rooms show Finland's forward march in living customs, culture and art, from prehistoric times till now. There are, in helsinki leicester's galleries, some fine early paintings, representing foreign schools, but no Finnish painting of merit developed until relatively modern times.HALL, Robert (1764-1831), English Baptist clergyman. Hall was born at Amesby, Leicestershire, on May 2, 1764, the 14th child of a Baptist minister. He was educated at the Baptist Academy in Bristol and at King's College, Aberdeen, where he graduated with an M. A. in 1784. He returned to Bristol the next spring to minister to Broadmead Chapel and tutor in classics. There, at Cambridge (1791-1806), and at Leicester (1807-1825) he gained a reputation for eloquent preaching. He died at Bristol on Feb. 3, 1831.
The principal mutton breeds originated in England. The large, coarse long-wool types were developed on lowlands. These include the Lincoln, English Leicester, Border Leicester, Cots-wold, and Romney breeds, which are noted for their long, lustrous wool, heavy fleeces, large size, and blocky conformation. All are hornless with white faces. Coarse long-wool mutton breeds have been crossed with fine-wool types of Merinos to produce dual-purpose crossbreds, some of which have been developed into breeds of widespread usefulness. |
