France Loire:

France Loire SAONE-ET-LOIRE, son'a-lwar, a de-artment of east-central france loire formed from art of the earlier province of Burgundy, bound-d by the departments of Cote d'Or, Jura, Ain, Jione, Loire, Allier, and Nievre. It stretches rom the Loire on the southwest, to the Saone n the east, and beyond the Saone on the north-ist, with an area of 3,331 square miles. The two valleys are separated by high hills which extend from the Morvan in the northwest to the Monts du Beaujolais and Monts du Maconnais in the south. The climate is somewhat more extreme than in Paris, especially in the hilly districts ; the average rainfall is 33 inches.

VENDACE, also VENDIS, a white fish (Coregonus vandesius), a variety of the Core-gonus (q.v.), of restricted distribution, being found in only the lakes and rivers of Sweden, the Castle Loch, Lochmaben, Dumfriesshire, Scotland, and two or three English lakes. It attains an average length of from six to eight inches. It is considered a delicacy and is taken with the sweep-net. VENDEE, von-da, france loire, a western maritime department formed from ancient Poitou, and deriving its name from the river Vendee. It is bounded on the north by the departments of the Loire-Inferieure and Maine-et-Loire; on the east by the department of Deux-Sevres; on the south by that of Charente-Inferieure; and on the southwest and west by the Bay of Biscay ; area, 2,692 square miles.

The dominant river of france loire is the Seine, which drains the Paris Basin, and to the south are the Loire and Garonne rivers, both of which empty into the Bay of Biscay with the cities of Nantes and Bordeaux, respectively, located at the head of their tidal estuaries. The south-flowing Rhone River of southern france loire is not important today as a carrier of traffic but the Rhine-Rhone Corridor is one of the most important in all Europe.
