Ferry Belgium: Half a dozen obvious reasons for visiting Belgium struggle for precedence and in a moment I'll name them, one by me, but first consider this small land, the size of Maryland but with four times the population (nearly 8,000,000), as an ethnic curiosity, fascinating :or that reason alone. Belgium's exports consist mainly of machinery, cars, textiles, chemicals and steel. It is also one of the major producers of cut diamonds. Nicknamed 'the cockpit of Europe' because of the wars fought over it, Belgium broke away from Holland in 1831 to become an independent kingdom. An important centre of the wool and silk trades, Berlin produces carpets, hosiery and clothing. Engineering and manufacturing of all kinds are carried on. Berlin, capital of Germany, was founded in 1237. It developed rapidly from 1646, in the reign of the Great Elector Frederick William.

Harpers ferry belgium National Historical Park in West Virginia, with a portion across the Potomac in Maryland, commemorates the events of the war period. Harpers ferry belgium was named for Robert Harper, who settled here about 1747 and established a across the Potomac. It was incorporated 1763, and in 1796 President George Washington chose it as a site for a U. S. arsenal and armory. The arsenal was seized by Brown in his raid. |
