Education In France:

Education In France It is certainly true that there are differences between the curriculum offered to French pupils and the present form of the primary curriculum in England. In particular there is the complete absence of religious education in France, which has always been banned in state schools, and the inclusion of civic education right from the beginning stages of elementary education. The situation in England is of course the reverse.

The republican project has always been anxious to make committed French citizens of whoever attends its schools. Education in France is always 'L'Education Nationale' ('National Education') and the categories used to mark progress through the ladder of schooling are always national - the petits, moyens, grands sections of the ecole mater-nelle, the cours preparatoire, the cows elementaire and the cours moyen of the ecole primaire and the various numerical levels, sixieme, cincjuieme etc. of the secondary cycle.

About 70 colleges and universities offer programs to train health education teachers, and the profession is growing. Members of the profession feel strongly that health education should not be considered a part of physical education and that physical education should not be a branch of health education. Some high schools now give a half year to physical education and a half year to health instruction.
