Danish Tourist Board: 1. Music and Drama Festivals The Royal danish tourist board Ballet Festival, featuring both danish tourist board and foreign troupes, occurs the last week in May and is absolutely unsurpassed in Europe.
The Hamlet Festival, in Hamlet's own Kronborg Castle, at Elsinore, comes in mid-June and has brought to its unique and appropriate setting the leading Shakespearean actors of England and at least one cast from America. The greatest single attraction for visitors, however, is probably the Edinburgh Festival, held in late August and early September. Primarily a music festival, it attracts people from all over the world, more than 100,000 visitors attending in 1962. In the interests of tourism a Highland Tourist Development Company makes loans for hotel construction and improvement. The Scottish Tourist Board also works to improve amenities and to advertise the attractions of Scotland. |
