Red danish people cattle have been intensively improved for dairy purposes in Denmark. A few are also found in northern Europe and in the USSR. They were first imported into the United States in 1935. Imported bulls were mated with odier breeds in the United States, and the offspring were also bred to Red danish people bulls. This "back crossing" procedure was continued until nearly all the herds became almost entirely Red danish people. Most of the cattle have been raised in Michigan, although there are a few herds in Indiana, Alaska, and several other states.
