Cost Vacations:

Cost Vacations Your sun-lightened day has three major parts instead of two. In most countries, the tourist crowds do not saturate the cities and resorts until the middle of July. For Europeans this is understandable, since school vacations over there begin and end much later than with us and families usually cannot start their holidays until far along in July. The big cities tend to empty themselves of their regular residents for the whole month of August.

The cost vacations of capital ships mounted at a rate much faster than that of prices in general. The Warrior (1861) had cost vacations only $1.8 million; the Royal Sovereign (1892), $4.5 million; and the Dreadnought (1906), $8.9 million. The 45,000-ton Missouri, on which the Japanese surrendered in Tokyo Bay in 1945, cost vacations $100 million, the same as the whole 16-ship Great White Fleet, and 10 times as much as the 27 British ships of the line that won Trafalgar. By 1959 a single submarine would be in the same $100 million class.

Next decide how long your working year will be. It is not 52 weeks because you will lose some time for days off, illness, vacations, and holidays. It is not even an eight-hour day because many studios are involved with work-related matters only seven hours a day with the remaining time spent taking breaks for one reason or another. Naturally, as a new professional, you may put in many more hours than just seven a day, but the basis for this example will be seven. You can then adjust it to your personal situation.
