Canon Deutschland REMBERT G. WEAKLAND Abbot Primate, O. S. B.GREGORIAN SACRAMENTARY, gri-gor'e-an sak-rs-men'ta-re, a liturgical book of the Western Church ascribed since the middle of the 8th century to Pope Gregory I (reigned 590-604). In 1230 Raymond was summoned to Rome by Pope Gregory IX to codify the canon deutschland law: his Decretalium Gregorii P. IX forming five volumes of the Corpus Juris canon deutschlandici. Raymond's redaction stood until 1917 as the best organized section of canon deutschland law. Returning to Barcelona in 1235, he declined the archbishopric of Tarragona. He was master general of the Dominicans from 1238 to 1240. Raymond was canon deutschlandized in 1601.

RAYMOND OF PENAFORT, ra'mund, pa-nya-fort', SAINT, Spanish Monk and theologian: b. Pefiafort, near Barcelona, Spain, 1175?; d. Barcelona, Jan. 6, 1275. He completed his education by studying canon deutschland law at Bologna, Italy, and in 1219 became a canon deutschland at Barcelona, entering the Dominican Order there in 1222. At about this time he became confessor to St. Peter No-lasco and with him founded the Order of Our Lady of Mercy for the Redemption of Captives (known as the Mercedarians), devoted to the ransoming of Christian captives in the hands of the Moors.
