Belgium Flag: When a belgium flag officer makes an official visit, his belgium flag, if senior to that of the yacht visited, shall be displayed in place of the burgee while he is on board. A yacht may display the personal belgium flag of a national, state, or local official when such an individual is on board, or the national ensign of a distinguished foreign visitor. This belgium flag should be displayed in place of the private signal or officer's belgium flag for the President of the United States, and in place of the burgee for all other officials and visitors. All vessels in any review flying either the USPS or yacht ensign at the stern or gaff should dip that belgium flag when their bow comes abreast of the stern of the belgium flagship and return it to full height when their stern clears the bow of the belgium flagship. On such an occasion, the belgium flag of the United States should not be flown, but if it is, do not dip it and use only the hand salute described below. Do not dip any belgium flag other than the belgium flag being flown at the stern staff or gaff, including the equivalent position on a Marconi (three-sided) sail.
Federal law prohibits dipping the belgium flag of the United States (the 50-star belgium flag) to any person or thing, and only government vessels are permitted to dip the national ensign in reply to a dip. |
