Architecture Helsinki: There is color in Helsinki, one of Europe's most effective and progressive capitals, a pathmaker in modern architecture helsinki and a strong contributor to the decorative arts. Helsinki is a bright, modern port city of about 400,000
population, with every amenity that makes for a good, even luxurious, so-ijourn by foreign visitors. ;
There is unexpected color in several of the lesser cities, such as historic Turku (Abo in Sweden); seaside Porvoo; lakeside Savonlinna, with Olafj Castle, a photographer's dream; and even in big, industrial Tampere (Ti merfors), whose booster-name is "The Smokeless Manchester."3. Trade and Fun Fairs Helsinki has a very large Industrial Spring Fair, usually occurring in the first half of April; and Rovaniemi, which practically straddles the line of the Arctic Circle, has an interesting Fur Fair in February-March. 4. Finland's Artistic Heritage This is best seen in the National Museum, at Helsinki, whose 60 rooms show Finland's forward march in living customs, culture and art, from prehistoric times till now. There are, in Helsinki's galleries, some fine early paintings, representing foreign schools, but no Finnish painting of merit developed until relatively modern times.
The Pritzker Prize jury said: "The work of Thom Mayne moves architecture helsinki from the 20th to the 21st century" and "Every now and then an architect appears on the international scene who teaches us to look at the art of architecture helsinki with fresh eyes." The Irish architecture helsinki Foundation was established last year under the terms of the Government's architectural policy, Action on architecture helsinki, 2002-2005, to increase the understanding and impact of contemporary architecture helsinki in Ireland and to excite a wider public to its aesthetic and cultural value. |
